Who are we?

The Committee meets throughout the year to plan and coordinate activities and fundraising efforts for Right to Life-LIFESPAN.Their programs include:
- Luminaries in January. Marks the Supreme Court anniversary ruling that legalized abortion in 1973.
- Mother’s Day Gifts are distributed after each Mass on Mother's Day weekend.
- Father’s Day Gifts are distributed after each Mass on Father's Day weekend.
- Christmas Card Sales. All donations received are given to Right to Life-LIFESPAN’S Educational Fund.
- Annual Life Chain. Peaceful & prayerful witness to the tragedy of abortion, on Respect Life Sunday, the first Sunday in October.
- Annual National Night of Prayer for Life, December 8
- On the evening of the feast of the Immaculate Conception, a vigil is held, usually from 8 p.m. until midnight.
- The following day, December 9, is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
- We have sponsored a postcard drive, to alert our federal lawmakers regarding our opposition to the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA).
- The Committee has also attended functions in the metropolitan area and participated in the March for Life in Washington, DC over the years.

National Night of prayer for life
December 8
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception.Churches across the country will be united in prayer that evening, to promote an end to abortion and to restore God's blessings of life and religious liberty in America. Gospel of Life encourages you to pray for these intentions throughout the evening of the 8th. May God hear and grant our petitions.

OLV participated in the Right to Life/Michigan Catholic Conference petition drive to ban dismemberment abortions in the state of Michigan. This ban allows for the exception to save the life of the pregnant woman whose life is endangered by a physical disorder, illness or injury. Generally preformed between the 13th and 24th week of gestation, this procedure dismembers the child, while in the womb, before evacuation. Just under 2,000 such abortions were performed in Michigan in 2018.
