As we prepare for this season, perhaps consider that Lent isn’t necessarily just about giving things up, but doing a little something extra for someone. Our theme this lent is “Hope in My Heart”. What a wonderful way to show your love for our fellow neighbors with these almsgiving ideas. We are collecting all donated items and monetary donations through Sunday, March 26.
RIGHT to LIFE Baby Shower for WEE CARE
Wee care provides help to women and their babies when other organizations or public agencies cannot meet their needs. Over 600 families are helped each year because of your generosity. Pick up a colored egg in the Gathering Space—each contains a needed basic baby item to purchase. If you would like to make a monetary donation, please make checks payable to LIFESPAN Wee Care.
EASTER BASKETS for St. Dominic’s Outreach Center
This Lent we are collecting (wrapped in cellophane) Easter baskets for a Boy or Girl (Ages 3-12) for St. Dominic’s Outreach Center. We are hoping to collect 100 baskets, 50 girl and 50 boy. Ideas for a basket; puzzles, books, sidewalk chalk, silly putty, play dough, water bottle, outside games, sport equipment, art supplies, small figurines, matchbox cars, jump rope, and candy are just a few suggestions. Please consider keeping basket value between $15-30.
New or Gently used FIRST COMMUNION Outfits
Please consider donating new or cleaned but gently used First Communion dresses, veils, suits, ties, socks (boys/girls) and shoes for children in Detroit area parishes who would otherwise go without. Many parents are struggling financially and purchasing such items can be almost impossible. If purchasing new items, please consider sizes 8, 10 or 12 or consider purchasing a DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) to purchase shoes. The need is great. All outfits can be hung on the clothing rack in the Gathering Space.
Monetary Donations for CAMP OZANAM
St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) owns and operates a free summer camp program for qualifying boys and girls, ages 8-14. Camp Ozanam has served over 119,000 children since 1923 and is located on the shores of Lake Huron. Your generous donation will make it possible for children who would otherwise not be able to go to camp. Please make checks payable to St. Vincent de Paul—memo line: Camp Ozanam.
Christian Appalachian Project (CAP)
Ministry founded by Fr. Ralph Beiting in 1962 and serves the people of Appalachia. Far too many children, their families, and seniors in Appalachia live in desperation. No matter how hard they work, they have trouble escaping poverty, hunger, and fear that have held their family’s captive for generations. You can help provide essential services that transform lives. Through Hunger & Poverty Relief, Child Family Development and Disaster and Elderly Services, CAP helps build hope, while sharing Christ’s love. Much of CAP’s services come from volunteers. Our Lady of Victory Teens along with Deacon Ric and Colleen Misiak have been among the volunteers who have served throughout the years. Please make checks payable to Christian Appalachian Project. Monetary Donations for GIANNA HOUSE
The goal of Gianna House is to provide a safe residence for pregnant teens and their newborn infants while providing spiritual, educational, and parenting support and resources to all pregnant women. The vision at the Gianna House is to change the lives forever of teen moms and their baby by providing them with the opportunities to live in a safe and loving environment, that provides educational, life skills and career planning. The Gianna House suffered a setback this past December because of broken water pipes. All moms and babies are safe and being cared after, but extra help is needed to recover from the water damage. Please make checks payable to Gianna House. For more information, please visit: www.giannahouse.org.
